Year 4 had a go at beating a ‘chaal’ rhythm. The dhol drum has two pitches – dha (low) and na (high). We watched a tutorial on how to play the chaal rhythm and although we couldn’t manage it with two hands, we had a degree of success whn half of us clapped the ‘na’ and the other half beat the ‘dha.’
Next we listened to a chaal backing track and used Music Notepad to compose a 4 bar melody over the chaal. Some of us were quite creative.
