One Night in Bethlehem by Year 5 and Year 6

Today we celebrated our last day of school together in the hall led in a lovely assembly by our children in Year 5 and Year 6. Parents from both classes were invited and we had an absolutely fantastic turnout, the hall was packed!

The children’s performance was superb with a mixture of acting and singing from our Year 5 class and a combination of choir and solo singing from our Year 6 children.

It was a lovely way to end the year and prepare for celebrations over Christmas.

Extra special thanks to Mrs Carrahar and Mrs Wilson for taking the time to prepare and rehearse the show and all the songs with the children, and to Mrs Fenwick for assisting with the words and music on the day.

Christmas cards

We made our own Christmas cards with an angel on the front. First we had to glue the angel’s wings and body together and then we decorated the angels face, deciding what colour we wanted the hair, eyes and mouth to be. After that we stuck the head onto the body and began decorating with glitter, sequins and shiny paper. We then stuck the angel onto the card and left it to dry. It was lots of fun making different patterns.

 Calendars

Using repeating patterns we have made a calendar for our families. Here are the photos that are on them.

Pupil Choice

The infants then had a pupil choice afternoon,in reception we made Christmas trees out of paper plates.

Firstly we read ‘The Christmas tree tangle’ story and then looked at the step by step instructions on the big screen.

After that we started to make our Christmas trees. The first step was to paint our paper plates. Then we had cut the plate into three pieces and carefully staple them together.

Once they were dry we decorated our trees with lots of sequins, ribbon and a star on top.

We had lots of fun dancing and then made a huge conga line. We went all around the hall then to our classrooms for some party food.

While we were eating our food we had a special visitor…it was Santa Claus!

We sang songs with Santa and then he gave everyone their own present. We were all very excited.

Year Six: The Event

On the 14th of December eleven of our Y6 children went along to ‘The Event’ (hosted by St Joseph’s RC Academy in Hebburn) where we met Bishop Séamus Cunningham, the 13th Bishop of Hexham and Newcastle. He chatted to us over a piece of pizza and juice.

There were children from several Catholic Primary schools and some year 7 and 8 pupils from St. Joseph’s there too.

The theme of the event was – ‘Christ Among Us.’ We had a lovely night with like-minded people. We are looking forward to the next one.

Year 6 visit to Cheviot Court Care Home

Today (21st December 2016) Year 6 visited Cheviot Court Care Home for the elderly, where we sang our production ‘One Night In Bethlehem’ to them. We sang several carols in unison as a choir, as solos and in two parts. The old people had never heard them before and were thrilled. Afterwards we chatted to them and gave them each a Christmas Card – written personally for each resident by Jessica Amess in our class.
It was a great privilege to be able to share our time and talents with them and to be able to live out the Gospel Values in such a small way in our community.

Year 3 Liturgy

To celebrate our first Reconciliation and the end of our RE topic in class, Year 3 took part in a class liturgy. We listened to some music as we passed a candle round to say a prayer and then read the story of Zacchaeus the tax collector. Our mission was to tell our parents and families that we love them.

Ancient Greece

These past 2 weeks year 4 have been learning about Ancient Greece.

We learnt that Greece conquered a lot of land, but then the Romans came a long and took most of the land that they had.

In DT we have been designing pop up books and how they work.
